America's Ancient Markers
By JASON SCHLABACH
A call to prayer and remembrance
Ancient Markers—What are they?
May the ancient markers of America be restored once again. What are the ancient markers you ask? It’s declarations that were made by the Prophets in regard to America’s purpose and destiny. That is not to say America has been perfect and has not made mistakes over the years, we all realize that I hope.
However, we the ecclesia must awake from slumber and understand were the ancient markers that were decreed when our nation was founded that reflect what God established as the destiny for this nation to be and to do.
Why are we blessed?
Robert Hunt said in 1607 when he landed on Cape Henry and put that cross on the beach he prophesied the destiny of America, “The gospel will go forth from these shores not only to this land but to all the nations of the earth.”
Since then America has become the trumpeting voice of the gospel because it was God’s destiny for the country. Is it any wonder that Satan hates America? We do need to move forward in the area of justice and there are things like racism that need cleaned up, but in this season that God is wanting to restore the ancient markers, Satan is doing all he can to destroy everything he can about our nation’s past even the good past. He does not like our Christian roots and God’s purpose for our nation.
It’s not about America being the greatest country or the wealthiest and strongest nation but it’s about our destiny and Christian heritage. All the stuff like wealth and strength is so we can fulfill our destiny as a country.
The following quotes reference what I think are some of Americas ancient markers.
The Founders in their own words
George Washington, “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible”.
John Quincy Adams, “the highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”
In other words, we want to be a nation that partners with God, married and joined together with Him.
After signing the Declaration of Independence, (which has four references to God in it) referencing Him as our law maker, our Creator, our Judge and our Protector), Samuel Adams who was quite a character said, “we have this day restored the sovereignty to whom alone men aught to be obedient. He reigns in Heaven and from the rising to the setting sun may His kingdom come.”
Truth is truth and like John Adams once said, “facts are stubborn things”.
Our Heritage—what happened?
As I read back over our heritage as a nation, I came upon this interesting fact regarding education in America. 106 of the first 108 colleges in America were founded on the Christian faith. Students at Harvard and Yale were required to read the Bible twice a day.
Harvard’s founders said, “All knowledge without Christ is vain.” Harvard’s motto was, “For Christ and the Church.” Yale founders said, “Every student shall consider that the main end of his study is to know God and Jesus Christ.” Princeton’s motto was, “Under God’s power, she flourishes. ”Harvard’s “Rules and Precepts” of 1646 hold that “the main end of [a student’s] life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life…the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning.”
Princeton’s motto, “under the protection of God she flourishes”. The schools first president Johnathan Dickinson said, “cursed be all learning that is contrary to the cross of Christ”.
His Destiny for our Nation
May we relax and realize that God is not nervous or intimidated with what is going on but it is the responsibility of we, His ecclesia, to awake and remind Him what His destiny for this nation was from the beginning. After all, what he wanted for our nation was His idea and purpose not man’s. The founding father’s decreed as prophets what God had put into their hearts. May we rise and proclaim once again what His heart was for this nation rather than sit and wait hoping to sneak away from the evil.
The words “under God” in the pledge of allegiance is more than some religious words to satisfy Christians in our nation, it is our history. May we come together and pray that the ancient markers that our founding fathers made would once again be restored.
Thus says the LORD: “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ Jeremiah 6:16
Press through the unbelief and abandon the bad and hold fast to the good. May the ancient boundaries that He set up that are about His kingdom purposes for this nation be restored for America.
